The 2018 - 2019 year saw the largest number of Raikes School Design Studio projects in history, as we partnered with 15 sponsors to produce 17 projects. In recent years, the Raikes School has also sponsored the Senior Design program for Computer Science & Engineering, but this year will be a return to our roots with a separate Design Studio only Showcase. Our students have worked hard to deliver innovative solutions to real business problems, utilizing a wide array of technologies to make it all happen. Here are a couple of projects making a big impact:
- Microsoft is using machine learning to more effectively screen in talent.
The Design Studio team has developed an algorithm that can be integrated into Microsoft’s existing Dynamics for Talent platform to help hiring managers more effectively screen applicants, as well as identify potential applicants who haven’t yet applied. - Gallup is looking for the next big thing in CliftonStrengths with two projects: reinventing the college strengths experience, and digitizing the coaching experience.
The Design Studio teams have developed proof of concept solutions for where Gallup can take two important aspects of the CliftonStrengths experience – how college students interact with and experience their strengths, and how specialized strengths coaches can make an impact on an individual’s life. - Water for Food needs a custom-engineered hardware package for remote measurement of energy and water usage.
The Design Studio team has built a prototype data logging and management device for irrigation water and energy meters, enabling storing of data, offloading via WiFi, and data analysis with visualizations.
All Raikes School alumni are expressly invited to the Design Studio Showcase, where you can see all of the students' hard work and connect with our Design Studio students, partners, and the Lincoln community. We hope to see you all there!
