Corporate Matching Gifts

The Raikes School is making great strides with fundraising efforts to grow the cohort sizes while maintaining the best student experience possible. Many of you contributed to your cohort funds this year or gave to UNL’s Glow Big Red campaign in February 2021, and we are extremely grateful for those gifts.

One avenue of giving that could increase the impact of your gift is by utilizing your employer matches. For example, Microsoft will match dollar for dollar, up to $15,000 per employee, per calendar year. In the 2020 fiscal year, Microsoft’s United States employees provided $221 million (inclusive of company match funds) to nonprofits. What an amazing impact that will have on nonprofits and their mission-driven work.

Karl Shaffer, cohort 2016, took advantage of the matching program offered to him at Google this spring. “I was aware that my employer offered a donation matching program, but to be honest, I had not used it before. However, when I found out that I could use it to support the Raikes School, it was a no-brainer. Through the program, all of my donations to the school immediately have double the impact through no additional work on my part, which is a huge win, especially knowing that the funds are directly supporting the experiences of Raikes School students. Most of all, even though I may be very early in my career, it feels awesome to start dipping my toes into philanthropic efforts, which is made even easier since my employer is helping to fund these efforts.”

If you have questions about your company’s match or how to get started giving to the Raikes School please reach out to Kathy Schubauer, the Raikes School's Director of Development at the University of Nebraska Foundation.
