Rachel joined the Raikes School in September 2021. Initially the Graduate Teaching Assistant, she became the Architecture and Engineering Lead in May 2022. As a GTA, she was responsible for the development and maintenance of the team's hardware and internal web application; her role has expanded considerably to encompass mentoring students on architectural and implementation issues, managing the department's research program, and assisting with the School's marketing material output. She is passionate about public service and non-profits, and channels her enthusiasm into internal advocacy for projects in this space.
A Briton, she moved to the United States to pursue graduate education. Prior to Nebraska, her day job as a senior technician and her night job as a freelance software engineer combined to produce over 10 years of industry experience developing software and enterprise hardware infrastructure.
She is currently working towards her PhD in Computer Science within the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's School of Computing. Rachel holds a Master's degree in Computer Science from the School of Computing and a Bachelor's degree in Computing and IT from The Open University in the United Kingdom, prior to which she studied creative media production at the Confetti Institute of Creative Technologies.
Rachel is an observant Jew, and she views most of her life through the perspective of her faith. She is an avid firearms enthusiast and she maintains a homelab environment, which she blogs about. She is a professional Member of the Association for Computing Machinery and the Chartered Institute for IT, and an Associate Member of the Free Software Foundation. To relax, she enjoys driving her truck on country roads with "Country Roads" on the radio.
