Students will earn 3 credits in International Studies in Business & Marketing (MRKT 491) while exploring three distinctive cities: São Paulo, Ubatuba, and Rio de Janeiro. The program highlights Brazil’s diverse economy and culture—São Paulo, the business powerhouse of South America; Ubatuba, where nature and sea meet; and Rio de Janeiro, the nation’s cultural capital. The program is in partnership with ESPM University and University of Nebraska–Lincoln Global Experiences
RAIK 491 / MRKT 491 — International Studies: Global Branding. We'll explore how technology, culture, economics, and other forces shape global business through case studies, field exercises, and educational work at ESPM. Then we’ll take that learning into the field, visiting some of Brazil’s most influential brands and organizations - from technology and social media to consumer products, fashion, and retail. You’ll see firsthand how companies innovate, build brands, and compete in a rapidly changing global market.
Planned company visits (tentative) include:
- TikTok Brasil (https://www.tiktok.com/@tiktokbrasil)
- American Chamber of Commerce Brazil (AmCham Brasil)
- Natura (https://www.natura.com.br/)
- Chilli Beans (https://loja.chillibeans.com.br)
- Heineken Brasil – Jacareí Plant (https://www.heineken.com/br/pt/pagina-inicial/)
In addition to the hands-on learning experience, the program also provides opportunities for extracurricular and cultural activities. These include Christ the Redeemer (Corcovado, official site), a football (soccer) game, and a visit to Sugar Loaf Mountain (Pão de Açúcar) (Bondinho website).
The program is led by Professor Robert Mackalski (17 years of leading Study Abroad Brazil programs) and Theresa Arneal (Assistant Director of Recruitment and Outreach).
